Online CEU Courses

The Role of the Nurse in Buprenorphine Treatment
6 Standard ceus $18/ 6 NBCC ceus $18

The objective of this course is to provide general knowledge about buprenorphine products for the pharmacological treatment of opioid addiction based on information gathered from the Technical Assistance Publication, Buprenorphine:  A Guide For Nurses.   The publication was designed as a resource to help nurses working with community physicians to improve treatment outcomes for individuals receiving office-based treatment for opioid addiction.  It contains important general information on the pharmacology, safety profile, adverse effects, interactions, cautions, contraindications, and abuse potential of buprenorphine products as well as strategies to help the provider conduct screenings and  assessments, monitor treatment, and provide appropriate counseling and supportive services.  This would be an excellent course for anyone who is interested in the treatment of opioid addiction.

Psychotherapeutic Medications:  What Every Counselor Should Know
5 Standard ceus $15/ 2 NBCC ceus $6

This course was created using the Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network publication, Psychotherapeutic Medications 2008: What Every Counselor Should Know.  It gives counselors updated information about the use of psychotropic medications for various mental health disorders including purposes, doses, side effects, and cautions.  In addition, medications for alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs are outlined, so this would be an appropriate course for anyone in the mental health, medical, or substance abuse treatment fields.

Focus on Prevention in Substance Abuse

1 Standard ceus $3/ 1 NBCC ceus $3

Abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs is a problem throughout the United States, and communities vary greatly in the specific problems they face, the groups affected by these issues, and actions they take to address these specific concerns.  This brief course was designed to assist a wide range of groups and communities to move from concerns about substance abuse to proven and practical solutions.  It was created using a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Publication and would be useful to anyone who is interested in helping combat substance abuse issues within communities.

Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment
20 Standard ceus $60/ 20 NBCC ceus $60

Research consistently shows a high prevalence of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts among persons with substance abuse problems who are in treatment, and a significant prevalence of death-by-suicide among those who have at one time been in treatment when compared with those who do not have a diagnosis of substance use disorder.  This course was developed using the Treatment Improvement Protocol  publication, Addressing Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Substance Abuse Treatment to give clinicians a practical guide to gather information routinely from, refer, and participate in the treatment of clients at risk for suicidal behavior. It also provides several vignettes of counseling sessions with these clients and is appropriate for front line counselors in a substance abuse treatment program, for those who work with individuals who have both a substance abuse and mental health disorder, for counselors addressing any clients with suicidal ideation or behavior, and for any individuals who want to gain more insight into this important subject matter.
