Anger Management - Continuing Education CE Course

Course Description 

This course was developed from the US Department of Health and Human Services publication which outlines a cognitive behavioral therapy approach to treating anger management for substance abuse and mental health clients. Many substance abuse and mental health clients are victims of traumatic life events, which lead to substance use, anger, and violence. This course will provide tools to help deal with these issues. Substance abuse and mental health clinicians as well as anyone who wants to learn more about anger issuesand the management of these issues will benefit from the descriptions of the 12 week anger management group treatment plan that is presented. 

Course Objectives 
1. Recognize the purpose, conceptual framework, and rationale for anger managementtreatment and learn to analyze and identify an anger episode and the events that indicate anescalation of anger. 

2. Exhibit an understanding of cognitive behavioral strategies for controlling anger includingcognitive restructuring and thought stopping. 

3. Review the Conflict Resolution Model of anger management and learn to recognize assertive responses to anger rather than aggressive or passive responses. 

4. Examine the relationship between responses to anger and past familial interactions and how one's past has influenced thoughts, feelings, and attitudes
