OSHA: Bloodborne Pathogens


Course Description
This course covers OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1030 regarding healthcare worker exposure to blood-borne pathogens. It gives an overview of the standard, and addresses specifics on what employers are required to do when an incident occurs, protective measures employers need to take, equipment available to reduce the risk of incidents, and information about management and use of sharps and catheters.

1. Be familiar with OSHA standards related to healthcare worker exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
2. Know what is legally required of employers to protect healthcare workers from incidents.

Injury Prevention and Elderly Care
This course provides guidelines for nursing home employers to help reduce the number and severity of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in their facilities. The recommendations in these guidelines are based on a review of existing practices and programs, State OSHA programs, as well as available scientific information, and comments received from representatives of trade and professional associations, labor organizations, the medical community, individual firms, and other interested parties. OSHA hopes that employers with similar work environments will find these guidelines applicable such as assisted living centers, homes for the disabled, homes for the aged, and hospitals, as well as nursing homes. 3 CEU hrs $9

Older Adults and Depression
This course describes what an evidence-based practice (EBP) for treating older adults with depression is. It also presents factors to consider when choosing an EBP; identifies which EBPs are available for older adults with depression; and describes the available training resources. These interventions are more likely to reduce depressive symptoms in older adults than other interventions when implemented correctly. EBPs covered include psychotherapy interventions, antidepressant medications, multidisciplinary geriatric outreach services, and collaborative and integrated mental and physical health care. 10 CEU hrs $30
